The exciting experience of starting her freshman year at Stanford quickly became stressful for a 19-year-old woman when she discovered that her psychiatrist back home in New Jersey was unable to prescribe her depression and anxiety medications across state lines. Attempting to have her prescriptions filled at home and shipped to her in California only heightened her anxiety when the shipment experienced a lengthy delay. PinnacleCare worked to identify and vet psychiatrists near Stanford so she could relocate her care to California. PinnacleCare researched based on personal preferences shared by the young woman, including the request for a female provider within 5 miles of her university who had specific areas of focus in the mental health issues with which she was diagnosed. PinnacleCare provided her with a Physician Referral Report of its top three recommendations. The young woman then reached out to those providers to personally choose which psychiatrist she clicked with best.
A 20-year-old PinnacleCare Member who flew to Aspen for a spring break ski trip with his friends had a serious accident on the slopes and required emergency medical care. His mother knew he had 24/7 access to PinnacleCare via the membership she had purchased for him and called the Member Hotline to alert them of her son’s accident. PinnacleCare’s Medical Director quickly reviewed her son’s medical records and noted that he had recently been diagnosed with mononucleosis, a condition that carried the risk of internal bleeding from a ruptured spleen. He immediately contacted the emergency department at the hospital, guessing correctly that the young man would not know that his earlier bout of mono would be important information to share with the medical team. Fortunately, he was fine, but PinnacleCare’s response and guidance helped ensure the best outcome and gave him and his mother peace of mind that he was going to be okay.
